THEN AND NOW
Two 70s era photos of the Red Clay Ramblers flank the 2006 pic of original Ramblers Jim Watson, Bill Hicks, and Mike Craver
The photo on the left was given to the band at the 2006 show by Jim Beck of Kingsport TN.  (left to right) Bill Hicks, Jim Watson, Jack Herrick, Tommy Thompson, and Mike Craver  Thirty years ago in June, the Red Clay Ramblers were the first band ever to play the Down Home.  Ed Snodderly tells this story: "We went up to a festival and hired Tommy Thompson and the Red Clay Ramblers.  Then we looked at each other and said, 'Now we have to go build a club for them to play.'" The photo on the right has been posted on the bulletin board in the Down Home for decades.  Annie Malone is written on the back so we'll give her photo credit.  (left to right) Jack Herrick, Jim Watson, Bill Hicks, and Tommy Thompson standing behind Mike Craver

The good kind of Spam
Jim Watson proudly hoists a can of Spam at the Down Home in honor of Mr Whitekey's Fly By Night Club in Spenard, Alaska.  The Red Clay Ramblers performed there back in the 80s.  Read about that show.

Joe attempts to match the banjo-tossing feats of Uncle Dave Macon with nearly disastrous results.  The show paused briefly to untangle the dangle.

As they usually do when passing through Johnson City, Craver, Hicks, Watson, Newberry did a live show on Dave Carter's Studio One, WETS-FM on Saturday 7/22/06.  WETS always posts a great picture on their website, and here's the one from this visit along with a couple of our shots, too.  That's Dave Carter in the bottom right photo with Jim and Bill.
